St Ouen's Bay Beach, Jersey

St Ouen's Bay in Jersey (a.k.a the 5-mile beach, for its' stretch of unspoiled golden sands) is a year-round mecca for watersports fans, especially surfers reveling in the rolling Atlantic breakers.

And why do I love it so much? Well, nothing beats leaving the office after a busy day of international finance, throwing beach gear and a BBQ in the car and heading over to St Ouen's for a late, leisurely swim with my son, then lighting the barbie as we watch the fabulous sunset and listen to nothing but seagulls and the waves! In high summer, it's still light here beyond 10pm ... pure, simple, unadulterated heaven.

Never heard of Jersey? It's the largest of the British Channel Islands and I'm lucky enough to live here. It's a 45 square mile chunk of granite stuck in the English Channel, just off the French coast ... and for my money, there's simply nowhere better in the world.

While we have 48 miles of coastline, with shallow sandy bays Like St Brelade in the south, and towering cliffs plunging towards beautiful intimate coves like Rozel and Bonne Nuit Bay in the north, my all-time favourite remains as St Ouen's Bay.

You will have to visit! And when you do ... make sure to grab a lazy Sunday morning brunch right next to the beach at El Tico, or Big Verns ... oh, and you'll want to visit Greve De Lecq, Beauport, Bouley Bay and so many others.

My Dad had told me about the Channel Islands, but you were right that I still did have to Google Jersey to learn more after reading your fascinating account!

I never knew Jersey was so livable (I think most people, like me. Ijust thought that the Channel islands were "tax-haven rocks," nor the beaches so sensational. I will definitely be showing him this page.
