Welcome to Anguilla

Welcome to Anguilla circa 1969

This was the "Welcome to Anguilla" sign at the Anguilla airport circa 1969... The days of the "revolution."

Nori's Reply: Ian, what a great Anguilla photo! It sure is a dramatic difference from the "Welcome to Anguilla" sign standing tall at the roundabout as you leave the Anguilla Airport, it even displayed the time and temperature back in the early 2000s. If you have any more Anguilla photos of the time near the Anguilla revolution, everyone would love to see them! They capture such an exotic and remote feeling... :-)

I agree that the Anguillian Revolution period seems to have been a pivotal lifechanging event for Anguillians, and other areas of the Caribbean-other islands also having conflicts-seems such an exotic and mysterious period. Anguilla today is another world from the one the locals "of a certain age" recall. The modern Welcome fits todays' age as the old one did that era.
