Mahahual, Costa Maya, Mexico

by Norm
(Akron, Ohio, USA)

Many cruise ships dock in Costa Maya, Mexico. Many people stay at the cruise "village" to drink, shop and swim in the "big pool". But we head to Mahahual for the beach.

My wife and I love to take a taxi for $3 just a few kilometers to a quiet fishing village called Mahahual (Mah ah ue all).

Mahahual has a long strip of the whitest sand with several shops and restaurants. Cabana's all along the beach. Each restaurant sort of has their section of beach staked out.

Food and drink are inexpensive, it's reasonably quiet and there is plenty to do if you like water excursions. My wife loves to snorkel. She asked around and ended up going out with a group to the reef for an hour for $20.

What we both liked and I especially enjoyed were the beach massages. We actually found a spot as you are facing the shops with the beach to your back all the way to the end of the shops to your left (sorry best way I can describe it). It's located above a clean little restaurant upstairs. If you ask around massage can go for as much as $40 for an hour... keep asking!

We got ours for $20 an hour with a fantastic view of the blue ocean and palms! My wife went snorkeling... I went back for another hour long massage.... heaven!!!

Nori's Reply My parents have talked about Mexico and Mexican beaches. Yuki and are were too young to remember, but I can see now, from your report, Norm, that we have to add Mexico to our "Bucket List" of beaches. Lucky we're still young! :-)
