Gwen's on Shoal Bay

Debbie in Heaven, Shoal Bay - Gwen's

Miss winding over the sand dunes in a 4x4 to arrive at a small sandy parking - a short walk through the bushes to Gwen's on Shoal Bay. Pick up a cold brew and head for the hammocks. Order a snapper with rice and peas, kill 15 minutes whilst Gwen cooks one caught that morning and sit down to the best food on the planet. Smother it with the best local hot sauce and blow your taste buds away.

Note!...

There have been several reports about over-charging at Gwen's. Be sure to check your bill before paying.

Rise from the table and saunter down what i consider to be the most perfect stretch of sand in the whole wide world. Stop at the point where Shoal Bay East turns 90 degress to the left and try to figure out how on earth the sea can possibly be THAT shade of blue. Grab your snorkel and mask and wade out to sea to go float amongst fish, crustacia and coral that seems other-worldly.

Swim back to the beach and fall asleep under a perfect blue sky with small white clouds scudding across it.

Oh boy, do i want to back there now. In fact, my next action must be to book the flight back there. I LOVE Anguilla. After all, it's a little piece of Britain - my home land.

Nori's Reply: Shoal Bay really is a magical beach. A spot to spend the whole day, or week, or month, or eternity! I, too, am far away now up in New York. I need to plan my next trip "home", too... What a great photo. Thank you so much, Marc.

The Alamanda.....
by: Anonymous

The Alamanda is a stone's throw away from Gwen's. We'll be regulars there in November. The ALamanda has ridiculous rates...about $130/night. We're looking for great rates so we can spend most of our loot on rum punches all over the island and at the terrific restaurants ad vendors all over the island. Who's in?

Gwen's

by Leslie Bunch

We went to Anguilla for July 4, last year. On our trip, I discovered my favorite Beach, Shoal Bay East. Once there, all the way on the eastern tip, near the end of the beach, I stumped upon Gwen's.

We had the best lunch at Gwen's, returning nearly everyday of our trip. The food was the freshest, the drinks were cold, and it was affordable. Perfect!

Nori's Reply: Gwen's is one of my Dad's favorites! They certainly do serve delicious food, but his favorite part? Snoozing after a great meal on their hammocks!

First Glimpse at Gwen's Reggae Grill

by Eileen
(NJ)

My favorite spot in Anguilla is Upper Shoal Bay at Gwen's Reggae Grill. This picture is from the path behind Gwen's approaching the beach. I can almost taste the rum punch! Unfortunately there has been quite a bit of beach erosion since this was taken so it is not quite the same but it's still great and still my favorite spot...

Nori's Reply: Thank you for the photo, Eileen. Oh how it makes me want to spend the day lazing in one of Gwen's hammocks right now!

I have heard that Gwen's prices have been increasing. Still, it is a great spot to spend the afternoon... Shoal Bay, tasty BBQ and rum punches, and (some days) live music!
